Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

Description
The undead can really screw up your senior year . . .

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancĂ©. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.

Review:

For me, that greatest part of Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is that this is not your typical vampire story. Jessica does not fall head over heels at first sight. Instead she thinks Lucius is crazy, obnoxious and rude.

Within 24 hours of Lucius's arrival, Jessica's life is turned upside down. She learns from her adoptive parents that Lucius's crazy ranting's of her being a Vampire princess that was betrothed to Lucius by her birth parents is true. Not only does she learns this is true, but she learns her adoptive parents new everything and never told her.

She fights her attraction to Lucius and dates Jake, a human. Lucius continues his pursuit of Jessica and eventually Jessica begins to fall for Lucius. Just as she is about to fight for Lucius's affections, Lucius's uncles come to town and everything falls apart. Jessica must now find the strength to help her people and save the love of her life before it is to late.

I loved this book and must give it a 4 star rating. Don't forget to read the continuation of Jessica's story on www.Bethfantaskey.com. There are an additional 22 chapters that are a must read for any fan of Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side .

Captivate by Carrie Jones

Description:
Zara and her friends thought they’d solved the pixie problem. And they did — sort of. The pixies are all locked away, deep in the woods. But the king’s needs grow stronger each day that he is in captivity, while his control over his people weakens. And it’s enough to draw a new king into town. Astley claims he is different. He claims there are pixies who can live peacefully with humans, that it doesn’t have to be all violence and nastiness all the time. Zara wants to believe him . . . until Astley also claims that she is fated to be his queen.

There is no way Zara would ever turn pixie. And she’s got good friends who will make sure of that. Besides, she and Nick are so in love they’re practically inseparable. But when the very thing Zara wants to protect most is exactly what’s at risk, she is forced to make choices she never imagined. . . .

Review:
Captivate by Carrie Jones is truly captivating. I decided to bring this book along with me on a road trip to Boston, MA. I began reading it on the drive there (big mistake). I couldn't get enough of this book and so I read as many pages as I could while at the hotel. On the drive home I was finally able to finish the book.

If the need series ever develops and love triangle which it kind of seems it might. I am so team Nick. I cried, I laughed and I found my self wanting more. A year wait is far to long for the next installment of this wonderful series.

I highly recommend this series to those who loved Twilight, the House of Night and the Evernight series.

The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols

Product Description:
Lori lives for summertime on the lake. She spends all season wakeboarding, swimming, and hanging with her friends -- including the two hotties in the house next door. With the Vader brothers, Lori's always been one of the guys.

But while Lori and the "baby" brother, Adam, are inseparable friends, she can't deny a secret crush on Sean, the older Vader boy. This year Sean's been paying Lori a lot of attention, and not in a brotherly way.

But just as Lori decides to prove to Sean she's girlfriend material, she realizes that her role as girl friend to Adam may be even more important. And by trying so hard for the perfect summer romance, she could be going way overboard....

Review:
Jennifer Echols is a must read author. She is truly one of a kind. I have to give The Boys Next Door a five star rating.

This is the second book I have read by Jennifer Echols and I just had to run out and get a copy of the Ex Game. I purchased The Boys Next Door on Friday night and began reading it at 6pm Monday night. I stayed up until nearly 1am reading because I just couldn't go to bed without knowing how the story ended.

Echols writes with such detail that even though I don't know a thing about wakeboarding, I was able to visualize the stunts Lori and the boys were attempting to nail.

Any girl that has had a crush on a boy can relate to this story and should defiantly pick up a copy and begin reading immediately.

House of Night Series

Series description by book:

Marked-

After she is Marked, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny— with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

Betrayed-

Zoey has managed to settle in at the House of Night and come to terms with the vast powers the Goddess Nyx has given her. Just as she finally feels she belongs, the unthinkable happens: human teenagers are being killed, and all evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves.

Chosen-

Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and Zoey Redbird’s adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare situation of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn’t get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely affects the truth…

Untamed-

Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, the only two Zoey has left are undead and unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong. But will anyone listen to her?

Hunted-

What if the hottest guy in the world was hiding a nameless evil, and all he wanted was you? At the start of this heart- pounding new installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey’s friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren’t Neferet’s secrets any longer. But an unexpected danger has emerged. Neferet guards her powerful new consort, Kalona, and no one at the House of Night seems to understand the threat he poses. Kalona looks gorgeous, and he has the House of Night under his spell. A past life holds the key to breaking his rapidly spreading influence, but what if this past life shows Zoey secrets she doesn’t want to hear and truths she can’t face?

Tempted-

So…you’d think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark’s life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions. Speaking of stress, the dark force lurking in the tunnels under the Tulsa Depot is spreading, and Zoey is beginning to believe Stevie Rae could be responsible for a lot more than a group of misfit red fledglings. Aphrodite’s visions warn Zoey to stay away from Kalona and his dark allure, but they also show that it is Zoey who has the power to stop the evil immortal. Soon it becomes obvious that Zoey has no choice: if she doesn’t go to Kalona he will exact a fiery vengeance on those closest to her. Will Zoey have the courage to chance losing her life, her heart, and her soul?

Review:

The House of Night series is truly remarkable. It is unlike any other vampire story available for YA readers. Recommended for high school aged readers due to mature content, this book is sure to spark the interest of Twilight followers.

Each book is full of subjects in which most can relate. Friendships are tested, relationships are formed are broken, trust is betrayed and families are torn apart. Zoey and her friends find themselves faced with obstacles at every turn and it will take their collective help to defeat the evil determined to destroy them and all they hold dear.

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

Product Description:
All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge -- and over....

Review:
Going Too Far is a must read. This story is truly unforgettable.

Meg goes too far one night and as punishment is assigned to follow John on night shifts for one week during spring vacation.

Both Meg and John have been effected by tragic events in their past. Each go to very extensive lengths to live their lives in accordance to how they have been effected.

Meg has decided to live her life to the fullest and escape this small town she has lived in her entire life. While, John intends to live his life by the law.

Both push the other to see the world from their eyes and by doing so push one another too far. The question is, will their love for one another with stand tests, or will they push each other too far.

This is one love story you won’t want to miss. I find myself reading this book again and again. Jennifer Echols has written a two characters that are full of strength and bravery. You will laugh, cry and find yourself routing for each character as they face each obstacle that stands in their way of one another.
